Commentary on ACIM Lesson 207

I bless the world because I bless myself.
My Self's true work is to be the master of my thoughts. Such mastery is the work of a lifetime, perhaps many lifetimes, and is gained through the continual practice of mindfulness.... i.e., diligently watching 'the minds' automatic re-activity that is mislabeled 'thinking', and re-establishing consciousness of Truth wherever/whenever the false surfaces.
How is this done? It is a heart thing. For the holy heart within each of us, you and I, it knows when it has peace, or when it is disturbed. It knows when it is open, and when it is closed. As only fear closes the heart, that is what we each must face.... our fears. They are not truly real, even though that is our experience. Mindfulness is simply the practice of embracing our fears with the light of our truly awakened knowledge, which will dispel them.
The most fundamental truly awakened knowledge is that we areloved. It is an essential knowledge, as we all have experienced the confusion we wallow in whenever that simple awareness is forgotten. Upon that foundation, knowing we are loved, we are able to offer love to others, which is their path to healing, just as ours was, when we received that we were loved.
All this love is not 'ours', like something to own. It is just who we are. But we are only who we are when we are giving 'our love' away. Not trading, bargaining, scheming, manipulating any other with or for 'the love', just giving it away. If we/I do not feel increased by this, if it feels like a loss, it is not yet God's love, but the ego's counterfeit.
Being awake for the counterfeit is why we practice with diligence. My own experience is full of such lessons, and as a result my diet has often been quite full of 'eating crow'. (Funny phase... cannot imagine where it came from... I hope it is not so archaic that it does not communicate :-). Anyway, in the circle of life, it is a blessing to have friends who actually see you/me. They are, of course, God too, just up to keeping the play from getting boring.
Fat chance. If anything, life is not boring.
Namaste,
David

Lesson 207
I am not a body. I am free.
For I am still as God created me.
(187) I bless the world because I bless myself.
God's blessing shines upon me from within my heart,
where He abides. I need but turn to Him, and every sorrow
melts away, as I accept His boundless Love for me.
I am not a body. I am free.
For I am still as God created me.
