Commentary on ACIM Lesson10.
©2010 Rev. David Seacord

My thoughts do not mean anything.

What is freedom? And where is the true jail?  I have heard it said "No man is more enslaved than he, who though enslaved, believes he is free".   Already mentioned in my commentary for lesson 4, the teaching "Just don't believe your mind" is directly applicable here.  We are, by doing this course on a daily basis, taking repeated action to free our mind from the tyranny of its beliefs.  And it is 'OUR MIND' (collectively) that we are freeing, for, as every Bodhisattva (that could be each of us, eventually) has realized, it is the mass conscious illusion 'matrix' that we all share that most deeply enslaves us.  If you doubt this, just go be alone or do a 'vision quest' (in nature, especially) and watch how your creative, generative nature will begin to have and believe in its visions.  Then return to your normal world, stay awake, and look and see the cultural thought forces that will tell you that your visions are 'not possible'.

I liken todays lesson to a sandwich.  One piece of bread is "My thoughts do not mean anything" and the other piece of bread is "This idea will help release me from all that I now believe".  What goes between the bread slices is any and every thought that arises during the prescribed practice periods.  Especially any 'sacred cow' (special, excluded) thoughts.  Then, for a few seconds, slowly chew.  This is really just an emptiness morsel, had five times today.  If you allow yourself to stay hungry for freedom, and you chew slowly, it will be amazing how wonderfully good such a morsel will taste.  By the way, if you 'believed' any of this commentary, stick it into the sandwich too.

Namaste,

David
