Commentary on ACIM Lesson 326

© 2010 Rev. David Seacord

What is wisdom? It is not 'the long view'? .... it is not only the view that can be 'in the present', but one which can also see 'the unfolding perfection' in all the circumstances that we pass through, year upon year, on our awakening journey?

This thinking about 'the long view' arose in me today while gardening. It was a simple insight.... just recognizing that which I already knew, but on a deeper level....

Digressing a bit...one of the things it seems like I do anywhere I stay for any length of time is build compost piles. I just can't not do it. I usually find some old wooden pallets and wire them together in a square, then start dumping whatever I can find that is biodegradable into it and keep it wet enough for it to start breaking down into compost. Sometimes the one pile becomes two, and sometimes the two becomes three, and sometimes I have to give the whole compost pile away if I leave town etc.... but today, what I saw was that, just like a beaver builds dams because it is a beaver, I build compost piles because I am a gardner.

I usually don't think of myself as a gardner.... usually I am blind to that. Instead, I actively think of myself as a painter/artist/writer/musician/healer etc. The gardner in me is not perturbed... it just knows that when the right combination of circumstances occur, I will morph quite naturally into a gardener without a second thought. And way out there ahead of the gardener planting seed is the flip side of it all.... the compost pile builder building soil to put the seed in.

To the enlightened compost pile builder there is no attachment to WHO is going to be the gardener, or WHO is going to eat the harvest. All the compost pile builder needs to know is that the pile is making good soil. He knows making good soil is his purpose. Then, in time, when the soil is ready, and the season is also ready, God sends in 'the gardener'.

That the gardener (me) this morning had also been (in the past) the compost pile builder was especially delightful as I was able to personally experience the continuity of the process, and that opened up the satsang dialogue inside me about wisdom and 'the long view'.

But the real wisdom of the long view is always an impersonal one.... it's a teamwork thing, or a 'family of mankind' thing.... it's a knowing that our work as lightworkers is not about personal ego gratification or reward.... it's just about doing/giving away the miracle that is asked of us because we understand that is what will increase the Love and Wholeness in this world. As the Principles of Miracles makes clear, we are not to be concerned about where it will extend from there. That is God's job to handle that.

Our purpose is to extract from our life experiences the wisdom necessary for living in this world as an awakened being of Love. We do that by viewing each moment as a gift, and within that gift we find, if we look, a key called 'the long view'. I think the more we use that view, the deeper our peace.

Namaste,

David

Lesson 326

I am forever an Effect of God.

Father, I was created in Your Mind, a holy Thought that never left its home. I am forever Your Effect, and You forever and forever are my Cause. As You created me I have remained. Where You established me I still abide. And all Your attributes abide in me, because it is Your Will to have a Son so like his Cause that Cause and Its Effect are indistinguishable. Let me know that I am an Effect of God, and so I have the power to create like You. And as it is in Heaven, so on earth. Your plan I follow here, and at the end I know that You will gather Your effects into the tranquil Heaven of Your Love, where earth will vanish, and all separate thoughts unite in glory as the Son of God.

Let us today behold earth disappear, at first transformed, and then, forgiven, fade entirely into God's holy Will.
