Commentary on ACIM Lesson 223
© 2010 Rev. David Seacord
God is my life. I have no life but his.
This lessons thought is very similar to the Sufi wazifa "La illa ha, il allah hu", which means 'there is no reality but God'. Ultimately, this is what we train ourselves to know... at all times, and under all conditions. I am clear, for instance, that my recent citation might have simply been a warning, IF I had remembered this during the event. I compare it to a traffic stop that occurred a couple of years or so ago when I was out on the road with my truck doing art shows. The officer originally thought I was a commercial truck, which I am not, as I have converted it into an RV. In that situation, I did not forget, and after a brief conversation, he said, "Great, nice to meet you. You're free to go". He had not even asked me for papers or license of any kind. So I know that the rapport of human to human brotherhood does produce different fruit than fear does.
The question comes down to the remembrance. The Sufi practice of the wazifa is often many hundreds of times a day. It produces a kind of altered state akin to ecstasy. The wild looking dervishes of the Persian past were all familiar with these states, and viewed life through them.
In the modern world, we face ever-new distractions which tempt us to lose our focus on seeing God, as we become fascinated in our technologies or personal dramas. Still, it is the same challenge.... training the mind to rest quietly in the present and seeing the perfection of God everywhere, all the time, no exceptions. Our heart knows how we are doing.... and it is the source of our courage to acknowledge our errors, our failures, as we arise and begin again.
Each time we do, we gain in wisdom, and in peace.
Namaste,
David
PS.... FYI, today I visited the court, built rapport by reading the palms of three of the staff (and getting that they were wonderful people as I did it), presented my insurance proof and had the $435 fine for that reduced to $25, paid that, and scheduled my arraignment for next Wednesday before the court on the remaining charges (california rolling stop, and no seat belt). All of it being lessons is facing fear with a smile..... If you're wondering 'How did he read palms etc', it's simple... When she said, 'How can I help you?', I said, 'Could I see your palms?', and started talking... and as that is happening, others are watching and listening, and then, lining up for a reading too. Life is a hoot, que no?
To be cont..... :-)

Lesson 223
God is my life. I have no life but His.
I was mistaken when I thought I lived apart from God, a separate entity that moved in isolation, unattached, and housed within a body. Now I know my life is God's, I have no other home, and I do not exist apart from Him. He has no Thoughts that are not part of me, and I have none but those which are of Him.
Our Father, let us see the face of Christ instead of our mistakes. For we who are Your holy Son are sinless. We would look upon our sinlessness, for guilt proclaims that we are not Your Son. And we would not forget You longer. We are lonely here, and long for Heaven, where we are at home. Today we would return. Our Name is Yours, and we acknowledge that we are Your Son.
