Commentary on ACIM Lesson 227

This is my holy instant of release.

For me, the key in this lesson is the request to have illusions 'removed forever from my mind'. To this my heart says, Yes God, Let it Be.

And God says, "Have no other Gods before me." So I wonder, what would my list of 'gods before God' look like? Take out all the guilt motivated ones, and what is left is the Big One... the failure to Love myself making it impossible to love God.

So what is THE illusion to have removed? Only this.... that I am Real. Or, said another way, that I am 'not God' (i.e., not One with, or, that I could exist separately/indepentently).

That I AM, there is no doubt. That does not equate to my identity being 'real'. Adyashanti has said it clearly.... that most people, when they experience naked beingness, will chose to escape it, and return to some form of identity, some form of the illusion.

As we have all done it, there is no judgement. What there is to know is simply that the time will come when who we have always thought we were will drop away. Normally, in this world, that time is at physical death. But far better if before.

Lesson 227

This is my holy instant of release.

Father, it is today that I am free, because my will is Yours. I thought to make another will. Yet nothing that I thought apart from You exists. And I am free because I was mistaken, and did not affect my own reality at all by my illusions. Now I give them up, and lay them down before the feet of truth, to be removed forever from my mind. This is my holy instant of release. Father, I know my will is one with Yours.

And so today we find our glad return to Heaven, which we never really left. The Son of God this day lays down his dreams. The Son of God this day comes home again, released from sin and clad in holiness, with his right mind restored to him at last.
