Commentary on ACIM Lesson 242

© 2010 Rev. David Seacord

This is God's day. It is my gift to Him.

How could our lives not be the best possible... if we were able to always hear our internal Voice for God speaking to us and guiding us, and we were willing to be so guided? Certainly we are able, if it is of our own choosing.... I do not care, nor do I think God cares, what name is used, or what form is selected to represent the Single Divine Reality.... the only thing that matters is that our connection to Godness grows ever more deeply, until the surrender of the independent ego is complete. What that means that is revolutionary is that we have learned to trust 'the Godness' to lead.... at all times and under all circumstances.... and we accept wherever it takes us WITHOUT FEAR.

Obviousness hit me over the head today (so to speak) as to the real effect of fear. Here it is: The function of fear is to make us unwhole, and instantly blind to Reality. It splits us in twain, leaving us with only a faint and unreal-seeming memory of God. It is a disconnection from Source that leaves us floundering, vulnerable to a return to egotism. Why the Buddha and other Master teachers always instructed us to practice being our wholeness in a community of other practitioners is that when in the grips of a fear, our sangha would be around us as mirrors of remembrance. Not as judgers, for we all are learners... but as a choir of support, singing hymns of the return to Holiness.

As the Love of God never forces choice, we are free to learn at the rate we choose. What great good luck is ours when our heart is ready to fully enter the Communion of Spirit, without reservation. Surely that day approaches each of us today. If it still waits, it is only waiting our invitation. When we have seen clearly that we have nothing to fear from Love, it is instantly and naturally done.

Namaste,

David

Lesson 242

This day is God's. It is my gift to Him.

I will not lead my life alone today. I do not understand the world, and so to try to lead my life alone must be but foolishness. But there is One Who knows all that is best for me. And He is glad to make no choices for me but the ones that lead to God. I give this day to Him, for I would not delay my coming home, and it is He Who knows the way to God.

And so we give today to You. We come with wholly open minds. We do not ask for anything that we may think we want. Give us what You would have received by us. You know all our desires and our wants. And You will give us everything we need in helping us to find the way to You.
