Commentary on ACIM Lesson 248
© 2010 Rev. David Seacord
Whatever suffers is not part of me.
"Withhold forgiveness from your brother and you attack him". (ACIM, pg 495. I just 'happened' to open the book there...) (Now continuing, and writing as it is given:) If you attack him, you attack yourself, for your brother is you. If you attack yourself, you have forgotten who you are. If you have forgotten who you are, you have also forgotten the truth, for you are the living truth.
To return to your Self, gently quiet your mind until it is silent. This can be done by a process of focusing, or concentrating.... on the breath, for instance, for the breath and the mind are very connected... i.e., calming one calms the other. Once some calm ground is gained, practice simply being present. This means: Don't think. Don't judge. Don't evaluate. Don't plan. Just be present, and invite Love to return. You drove Love away when you withheld forgiveness, but it has forgiven you that. Love knows there are never any accidents in life, so why would it not forgive a mistake? For that is all it is.... not forgiving instantly is only a mistake, and as the Course teaches, calls only for correction, never punishment. There is only one correct correction, and that is to forgive now where before you did not. If you need help to do that, ask for it. Even right now, God's help is closer than your own breath.
What is closer than your own breath? Obviously, the Love in your heart. He who loves purely loves himself and all others. This is where you and I meet and know each other as one Self.
Namaste,
David

Lesson 248
Whatever suffers is not part of me.
I have disowned the truth. Now let me be as faithful in disowning falsity. Whatever suffers is not part of me. What grieves is not myself. What is in pain is but illusion in my mind. What dies was never living in reality, and did but mock the truth about myself. Now I disown self-concepts and deceits and lies about the holy Son of God. Now am I ready to accept him back as God created him, and as he is.
Father, my ancient love for You returns, and lets me love Your Son again as well. Father, I am as You created me. Now is Your Love remembered, and my own. Now do I understand that they are one.
