Commentary on ACIM Lesson 293

© 2010 Rev. David Seacord

All fear is past and only love is here.

Appearances are temporary, and with every appearance there lies the mystery behind it. So it is with love and fear. The mystery of fear is that it is the opposite of love. The mystery of love is that it has no opposite.

There is more, of course. We read in the lesson title... "All fear is past".... yet another truth expressed with the same words is: Fear is all past, or, All past is fear. They're all just deeper cuts, grappling with this mystery.

Continuing with the lesson title.... "and only love is here", which also means "and only here is love", and also meaning "and here is only love".

As the Course introduction presents: the meaning of Love is beyond what can be taught, and so this course simply aims at removing the blocks within us to the awareness of love's presence. This awareness of love is our greatest teacher, if we are willing to make it that. It will guide us unerringly 'in the paths of righteousness' for the sake of the liberation of all beings. It will have us speak clearly, perhaps without saying a word, by our example.... that the mystery of Love is the cure to the emptiness of a Godless life.

This cure cures everything that is real by naturally revealing everything that is not as nothing but an empty thought..... an emptiness simply waiting for our love to fill it. Thus we have our purpose and mission: Wherever love appears to be missing, to be it 'here'.

Namaste,

David

Lesson 293

All fear is past and only love is here.

All fear is past, because its source is gone, and all its thoughts gone with it. Love remains the only present state, whose Source is here forever and forever. Can the world seem bright and clear and safe and welcoming, with all my past mistakes oppressing it, and showing me distorted forms of fear? Yet in the present love is obvious, and its effects apparent. All the world shines in reflection of its holy light, and I perceive a world forgiven at last.

Father, let not Your holy world escape my sight today. Nor let my ears be deaf to all the hymns of gratitude the world is singing underneath the sounds of fear. There is a real world which the present holds safe from all past mistakes. And I would see only this world before my eyes today.
