Commentary on ACIM Lesson 287

© 2010 Rev. David Seacord

You are my goal, my Father. Only You.

The memory of You.... sometimes almost solid and touchable, at other times elusive, impossible seeming. Yet in it lies the secret code to unlock the Knowledge of Everything. So, it is of vital importance to all of us to find inside ourselves where this memory lives.

It is a memory which will confirm all the truth we have ever known, or believed in, or suspected, or hoped for. It is the memory of our relatedness to all things. It is the memory that gives a final and truly valid perspective to all the confusing and non-synchronistic events of 'our world'. It is the memory that transforms 'our world' by demonstrating that 'our world' is actually only a dream.... a very bad dream... that is 'having us' (as contrasted with 'we are having').

One could also say it is the sole goal of this course.... to awaken the memory of our true Source, our 'Father', our Creating Begettor.

The impact upon our lives should this happen is revolutionary, although the way that revolution manifests within us does vary according to our propensities. That is because our Godness loves a little spice too, on occasion.

But as no spice by itself is a life-sustaining livet (as contrasted to 'diet'), the real sustenance of Divinity is communion. That is, once again, the gift of a quiet mind which is completely at peace with the idea of giving up personality-based self-identity.

Let us all be so graced this day.

Namaste,

David

Lesson 287

You are my goal, my Father. Only You.

Where would I go but Heaven? What could be a substitute for happiness? What gift could I prefer before the peace of God? What treasure would I seek and find and keep that can compare with my Identity? And would I rather live with fear than love?

You are my goal, my Father. What but You could I desire to have? What way but that which leads to You could I desire to walk? And what except the memory of You could signify to me the end of dreams and futile substitutions for the truth? You are my only goal. Your Son would be as You created him. What way but this could I expect to recognize my Self, and be at one with my Identity?
