Commentary on ACIM Lesson 261

© 2010 Rev. David Seacord

God is my refuge and security.

Turning to God automatically at the slightest disturbance of our peace is one of the main things that we are attempting to learn from doing this Course. The degree to which that pattern is installed is a function of the way we each choose to participate with the Course. Where we are now is of course individual, but in the great picture, the chasm between being totally 'lost' or being a true guru is probably in God's eyes nearly the same thing. Remember, there are no degrees of difficulty in miracles, and God sees each of us as his Son. So for him, it's just as easy to transform a murderer into a saint as it is to transform a saint into a savior.

It is we who create the limits, and say what must be or cannot be. It is we who believe in personal identities separate from each other. And it is we who can awaken to the realization of the dream of it all, and choose to see everything newly. In that new seeing, life is naturally lived as an art-form with no concerns about the world. The world is, in God's eyes, pretty irrelevant, since nothing that is actually real happens in 'the world'. When we know that, we are truly free to be anything. Any struggling just reveals that we still believe in the unreal as being real. That is not a problem for God, but it might be for us, since our thinking is creative. The way out is easy--- just choose to think differently, feel differently, believe differently, understand differently, and contribute to life differently.

All of these differently's arise from one revelation. It is this. There is nothing 'between' (as in 'a stopping') me/you, and God. We reach out... God answers.

That is the true refuge and security of God.

Namaste,

David
